The Captain/Guidance

Lord I pray, let my words ring true and help my actions to be an inspiration.

alaskaThis phrase popped into my head while I was visiting Alaska back in 2004. It shocked me because I’d never had anything like that happen before, words just coming into my head from out of nowhere. I didn’t know why, or what I was supposed to do with it, but it’s stayed with me ever since.

Now, I use this phrase when I need to let go of the worry that creeps into my mind. Like getting ready to write a blog post about connecting to God.  Seriously, how can this not be a little intimidating?!  (*breathe*)

Everybody has their own opinions about God. Wars have been fought and blood spilled over what “He” is or isn’t, or whether we should even call it a “He” at all. Religion itself has been built around telling people what they should or shouldn’t believe.

That’s not why I’m here.

The very best I can do, my friendly blog reader, is to be completely honest and tell you from my experience what God is for me. It’s my fondest wish that this post will inspire you to think about your own connection to your guide, whether you call it Captain, God, the Universe, Allah, the Divine, the Source or the Force. Whatever you call it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you recognize it, and believe in the love that comes from it. Believing you’re loved and supported makes all the difference in the world.

In my “You are the Boat” analogy, the Captain steers the ships wheel. (click the link to read that post).

The funny thing is, when the analogy first came to me in May of 2008, I didn’t put the Captain into it. It wasn’t until a year later in March of 2009 when I felt the burning desire to write the analogy out into words, did I realize my Boat needed a Captain (and ropes too, but that’s for a later post).

Whether I realized it then or not, I was being guided.  My heart’s desire to share the Boat with a wider audience was/is my Captain’s way of directing me. Although writing out the analogy was difficult, (it took me almost a week) I couldn’t deny doing it. I felt compelled…...dare I sayinspired‘, to put into words this gift that was given to me when I needed it the most.

This analogy, You are the Boat, has given me a life I can really look forward to. And that’s why I feel compelled to share it with you, my friendly blog reader.

I know life is hard. I see the struggles, trials and tribulations. I recognize the anger, frustration and suffering.

But I also know that miracles happen every single day.kindness-wins

Every time someone reaches out to help someone else from the goodness of their heart, is a miracle.

Every time a person tames their temper, instead of screaming in anger, is a miracle.

Every time someone lets go of their righteous indignation and replaces it with forgiveness, is a miracle.

Every time someone speaks the truth and stands up to defend it, is a miracle.

Every time someone asks for guidance and then accepts it, is a miracle.

These simple acts are the blessings that help heal our world.

I believe that when we focus our attention on these simple acts, we reflect God.

I got an e-mail from my friend Molly the other day. I knew it would be appropriate for todays post so I saved it. I’ll share part of it with you…

“If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it!  If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it! He sends you flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning. Face it, He’s crazy about you.”

captain-kangaroo1What a wonderful way to start the day!

Knowing that the Captain loves me! ADORES me, in fact!!!

For me, God is about love, celebration, mercy and belief in the power of graciousness, kindness, generosity and bravery.

If there is one really important thing I hope to get across to you, my friendly blog reader, it’s this……

You don’t have to be perfect to be loved totally and completely.

You are exactly who you’re supposed to be.

Your Captain not only accepts you for who you are, but celebrates you! :)

Even when you screw up. Even when you feel like crap.

You are loved.

So here we are, my friendly blog reader.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post.

God knows, I’ve done my best! Hahahahahaha :)

I’ll be back on Monday with the Inspirational song of the week, and then next Wednesday I’ll post the next part of the You are the Boat series, the Rudder/ Attitude.

Have a wonderful weekend!
