Recognize

Today is Wednesday, which means it’s time for the word of the day.

Recognize: (verb) to identify, acknowledge or perceive as existing or true.

Thanks to Dictionary.com for giving me the full, unadulterated definition.

brasil-155I made this project earlier this year while  living in Brasil.   I used batik fabric, along with denim and corduroy.  I then embellished it with white, red, orange green and dark gray beads.  The word Recognize is spelled out with passion fruit seeds on plain white paper with white glue.

The project was half-way made before I even figured out what word to put in the middle.  My IPod was playing Frank Sinatra’s song “Luck be a lady tonight“, so that got me to thinking about being lucky.

Luck Be A Lady

They call you lady luck
But there is room for doubt
At times you have a very un-lady-like way
Of running out
Your on this date with me
The pickin’s have been lush
And yet before the evening is over
You might give me the brush
You might forget your manners
You might refuse to stay
And so the best that I can do is pray
Luck be lady tonight
Luck be lady tonight
Luck if you’ve been a lady to begin with
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck let a gentleman see
Just how nice a dame you can be
I know the way you’ve treated other guys you’ve been with
Luck be a lady with me
A lady never leaves her escort
It isn’t fair, it isn’t nice
A lady doesn’t wander all over the room
And blow on some other guys dice
Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, I’m the guy that you came in with
Luck be lady tonight
A lady never flirts with strangers
She’d have a heart, she’d be nice
A lady doesn’t wander all over the room
And blow on some other guys dice
Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, I’m the guy that you came in with
Luck be lady tonight

Notice the part where he sings “I know the way you’ve treated other guys you’ve been with”  , that is the part that got me to thinking “the most important part of being lucky is recognizing it.”

I am soooooooooooo  glad I got over my nasty case of craptitude (you can read about that here.)  The Universe can throw all the good luck my way, but because I wasn’t recognizing it, it didn’t matter a bit.  I was really messed up, and that is why I appreciate it all that much more now.  It’s like having a clean pair of eyes.

I am the luckiest lady in the world.  Even though I don’t always “feel” lucky,  I always know it because I can see it.  I recognize it in my son’s shining smile, my husbands laughter and my dog’s enormous pink tongue hanging out when she goes walking with me every day.  Even Simba, my no-longer Brasilian cat reminds me of how lucky I am.

How about you?  Are you feeling lucky?  Would you like to?

What are you recognizing?  Let me know.

Pam
